Grommet Styles
Insulation Grommets:
This style grommet is the most commonly used configuration.
These parts have been designed symmetrically with an ID, OD,
overall thickness, groove diameter and groove thickness.
Insulation grommets are used in applications where a wire, tube
or various other objects need to be passed through metal,
plastic or any material that may damage the outside surface of
the object while being installed or in use.
Mil-Specification Grommets:
Mil Spec grommets are insulation grommets, which
are produced from military specification rubber compounds.
Military spec grommets come in a variety of sizes which are
published by the government as the MS-35489 and AN-931 series.
These parts are required where a material must be in accordance
with Specification NASM-3036 Composition A (Nitrile) or B
(Silicone). The compounds for these parts were formulated to be
used in an environment where fungus or high heat may be an
issue. .
Vibration Mount Grommets:
These grommets are used for noise reduction and
protection from the forces generated in compression. These parts
are designed with flanges that are not equal. The thicker of the
flanges is intended to be the vibration isolator. Most common
usage would be to mount a small fan or motor, which requires
some vibration isolation properties.
Mounting Hole Grommets:
Used where a large grommet flange is not
practical, due to space limitations or a large flange that will
not fit through the mating hole.
Oval Grommets:
Used as a conduit where an oval shaped hole has been utilized
and or to protect an oval shaped item that is passed through a
panel.
Multiple Hole Grommets:
Used as a conduit to protect two or more items
that are to be passed through a panel.
Special ID Grommets:
Used as a conduit to protect an item being passed through a
panel where a traditional round straight hole insulation grommet
cannot be accommodated. Special ID grommets have holes that are
square, diagonal, tapered and uniquely configured inside
diameters. Please follow the link above to see all of the
different configurations.
Blind and Plug Grommets:
This style is used to block off an aperture in a
panel. Blind and Plug grommets are typically used when a hole
has been stamped into a panel for future use, however, at the
time of production the hole needs to be sealed.
Horseshoe Grommets:
Used for special applications where a traditional insulation
grommet cannot be installed.
Extended Neck Grommets:
Used in applications, which require some additional protection,
rigidity, and stability for the item that is being passed
through its housing. Most common use would be for an electrical
wire where it exits the housing of a unit and is to be used to
plug in an appliance, etc.
Electrical Bushings:
Used as a conduit to protect one or more electrical wires that
are to be passed through a panel. Cord Guards: Used in
applications where an electrical cord exits its housing and its
use requires flexibility, such as an iron, power washer wand,
etc.
